FRANK Bruno, former Olympic GB head coach Terry Edwards and Boxing4Schools are working with The Priory School in Orpington to provide a sport and education package, the only one of its kind in the south east.

The Frank Bruno Boxing Academy encourages young people to remain in education by using boxing and fitness.

It provides opportunities for students to gain coaching qualifications and lifelong learning skills such as teamwork, discipline and co-operation.

Students have been encouraged by recent visits and training sessions with former heavyweight champion Bruno, European gold medallist Luke Campbell, Commonwealth champion Kevin Mitchell and Olympic gold medallist James DeGale.

Competition is an essential part of the programme with students participating in local, regional and national competitions.

More than 200 people attended the fourth FBBA boxing show at The Priory on November 26, where 10 young boxers from the Academy were in action during the 12-bout card.

Special guests who supported the show were enthralled by the atmosphere and the next show is set to take place on March 11.

The Frank Bruno Boxing Academy will be holding a recruitment event on the same day between 8.15am and 3.30pm for any boxer aged between 16 and 19 who wants to sign up for the next course in September.
