TRIBUTES have been paid to a “quirky and humorous” teenager who died after being hit by a train.

Emilie Stammers was killed at Sundridge Park when the 7.30pm Grove Park to Bromley North service was pulling into the station.

Emergency services were called but they could not save the 18-year-old, from Beckenham, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her father Robin said: “It is with the deepest regret that we announce Emilie’s passing away and would like to say how overwhelmed we have been by the kindness shown by so many people at this sad and difficult time.

“Emilie was a sensitive and highly intelligent girl who was studying biology at Imperial College in London.

“She was a quirky and humorous individual, who had some difficulty fitting in with groups of people but had made several deep and lasting friendships.

“As her parents, we are deeply grateful for having had Emilie to share our lives with for the last 18 years. She meant everything to us."

He added: “She will always be loved and missed by her family and friends, as the many messages left on her Facebook site testify.”

The head of the Life Sciences department at Imperial College London, Professor Ian Owens, said: “We are immensely saddened to have lost Emilie.

“She was a bright and enthusiastic student who was enjoying her studies and being at university.

“Emilie made friends easily and was known to many, not least within the union, and our thoughts and sympathies are with her family and friends at this very difficult time.”

British Transport Police officers are preparing a report for the coroner about the incident which happened on February 4.
