THE family of a care worker killed by his mother’s former partner spoke outside the Old Bailey following the sentencing of his killer.

Andrew Wynter, of no fixed address, was sentenced to eight years for the manslaughter of Daniel Myrie at his home in Canada Gardens, Lewisham.

Wynter has been told he should be deported to Jamaica when he completes his sentence.

Mr Myrie, a 32-year-old Rastafarian, lived at the house with his brother Aaron and their mother, Pauline Williams.

Outside the Old Bailey, Miss Williams said she would write to the Home Secretary to ask for a longer sentence for her son’s killer.

The 53-year-old said: “I feel like I want to kill myself. I’m devastated.

“He’s left my three grandkids without their dad but he will get to see his kids when he gets out.”

She added: “He will serve just four years for killing my son in front of me.”

The Old Bailey heard an argument erupted between Aaron and his mother’s former partner, Wynter, on December 3 last year.

This led to Wynter stabbing Daniel Myrie in the stomach with a knife.

Speaking outside court about Wynter's jail sentence, Aaron Myrie said: “It’s ridiculous. The system's failed us. It should have been longer “I feel like my brother died for nothing and now his kids haven’t got their father.”

The 32-year-old added: “When he’s deported to Jamaica he will be back in the sunshine.”

Mr Myrie’s aunt, Sharon Williams, said: “I just think it’s really unfair. Justice should have prevailed. He should have been given a longer sentence.”

“It’s awful, you trust and invite someone into your home and in the end they take your son’s life. It proves he was never a loving trustworthy person.”
