MEMBERS of Bromley Little Theatre say a road closure is threatening its future.

North Street, where the 66-year-old theatre is situated, will become a no-through road by the end of the month.

Members claim the blockage will make it difficult for visitors to access the theatre.

They are concerned this will make parking outside more difficult, forcing visitors to use the car park in Beckenham Lane.

Chairman of the theatre Sue Court, who has been a member for more than 30 years, said: "It's causing absolute havoc.

"We are very concerned. Parking has been slowly eroded over the years.

"They say Bromley Little Theatre is integral to the community but they're making it impossible for anyone to get there.

"There is a small alleyway to get from Beckenham Lane car park but it will be difficult for elderly and disabled people as it is quite a distance."

She added: "Soon we will have full disabled access with a ramp but it will not be money well spent because there is going to be fewer and fewer people needing the facilities.

"We're spending £10,000 on a lift for people who won't be able to get there."

Mrs Court sent letters to residents and businesses which would be affected for them to sign and return to the council.

A spokesman for Bromley Council said: "We are closing North Street to through-traffic to make it safer and improve the local environment for residents. It was being used as a rat-run and people were parking illegally.

"It will get better. The road is already blocked but is not finished.

"When it is finished, there will be less heavy goods vehicles, so the road will feel like there are less obstructions in it."
