Thamesmead Town 2-1 East Thurrock United
As work continues apace on the new arena at Thamesmead Town, on the field the Mead cemented their play off position with a home win against high fliers East Thurrock.

Thamesmead made the most of few opportunities in front of goal for both teams in the first half.

On seventeen minutes, Rikki Cable played a lofted ball from the right wing over the East Thurrock defence, which found striker Andy Constable on the edge of he area, who delicately chipped the ball over advancing keeper Richard Wray for the opening goal.

Mead doubled the lead just two minutes later. Scott Mulholland picked up a clearance from Wray, which left the goal wide open. Rather than opt for a shot, Mulholland played a perfect pass to Cable, who was free on the left side of the area to slot the ball home for the second goal.

As East Thurrock worked hard to assert themselves, Thamesmead’s organised defence stood resolute to shut out each attack.

The visitors came close to pulling a goal back when Sam Barry's low shot from 20 yards out travelled through a crowd of players to be met by the diving hand of the ever alert Steve Northwood in the Mead goal.

The introduction of débutante Calum Mcgeehan on 77 minutes nearly gained Thamesmead a third goal as his shot from the edge of the area after a minutes on the pitch fizzed just inches past the post.

On 87 minutes, the Mead defence was finally breached. A free kick to the right of the Mead area was floated in to the middle of the goal where James Donovan rose highest to head home a goal that would set up a cagey finish.

In line with the rest of the match, Thamesmead stood firm and held out for a win that keeps them in the play off sport at the top of Ryman League Division 1.
