The teenager was attacked at a foot tunnel beside the Greenwich landmark at around 7pm on November 30 by a group of youths aged about 15 or 16.
He suffered a broken arm, injuries to his face and extensive bruising.
Officers believe the youths used the foot tunnel to flee the scene.
Detective Sergeant David Christie from Greenwich police said: “The area around the Cutty Sark is really busy, particularly around the time of the attack.
“I would urge members of the public who saw the attack to contact us as soon as possible."
