A REHABILITATION unit which helps patients regain their independence after an illness or injury has been relocated.

The Frank Cooksey Rehabilitation Unit has moved from King’s College Hospital to Lewisham Hospital to provide services closer to where people live.

The unit prepares patients before they leave hospital by helping them re-learn skills or tasks such as speaking, walking, showering, cooking and dressing.

Consultant in rehabilitation medicine, Dr Julian Harriss, said: “Rehabilitation is extremely important so this is a big move for King’s and the patients we treat. Our main aim is restore normal or near normal function to people recovering from injury or illness.

“The unit has also been expanded so the team is able to provide specialised services to more patients than previously, and help them return to the community from acute care.”

Patients at the unit will be treated by staff from King’s College Hospital.
