ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners formed a human wave in London to demand action on climate change.

More than 50,000 people attended The Wave march, calling on world leaders to take urgent action at the UN climate summit in Copenhagen being held from yesterday (December 7) until December 18.

Lib Dem candidate for Lewisham East, Pete Pattisson, organised a team of seven cyclists from Lewisham to join the demonstration.

The team met in Lewisham town centre and cycled to the start of the march in Grosvenor Square, down Piccadilly and through Trafalgar Square to encircle Parliament.

Mr Pattisson said: "Climate change is one of the biggest threats we face, both in this country and abroad.

“The cycle ride showed our commitment to taking steps to reduce our impact on the environment in Lewisham, but it also gave a message to world leaders that they must dare to take the difficult steps to reduce emissions around the world."
