THE OWNER of a store where robbers made off with £200,000 worth of jewellery has spoken of his fear during the raid.

During the late afternoon raid at 415 The Jewellers in Crofton Road, Locksbottom, five men smashed their way into the store.

They made off with watches and jewellery during the raid which took place on Thursday (Nov26) at around 4.20pm.

The store has been opened for eight years and is run by two owners, as well as one member of staff.

One of the owners, who wished not to be named, was inside the store at the time, as well as the female shop assistant.

He said: “We heard banging on the windows and they came running through the door with axes.

“They were wearing balaclavas and were very organised.”

The 43-year-old man added: “One of them had a nail gun and used it on the counters, they cleared it all up in one minute.”

As well as selling jewellery, the shop also looks after items for customers and it was one of these items, a £20,000 Rolex watch, which was the most expensive item taken during the raid.

The owner added: “It was so quick but frightening.

“It shook us both up and I still do not think it has sunk in.”

And it was only after the raid when the owner reviewed the CCTV footage that he noticed one of the men had a handgun.

He added: “We have anti-theft glass and CCTV but we are going to see what improvements we can make.”

The group fled the scene in a black Audi A6 and sped off down the A21 towards Sevenoaks.

The Audi was later found abandoned in nearby Wellbrook Road at around midnight.

The Met’s Flying Squad is now investigating.
