THE LONGEST peel competition was just one part of an apple themed event.

Youngsters had fun at the event which allowed them to taste different apples and juices.

They were also able to take part in apple-themed games such as pin the maggot on the apple and guess how many crab apples were in the jar.

The event was held at Bromley’s Environmental Education Centre at High Elms Country Park in Shire Lane, Farnborough.

It was one of many being held across the country to promote National Apple Day which took place on October 25.

At the event there was also apples, juices and local produce on sale as well as Orpington Beekeepers promoting honey and demonstrating the art of beekeeping.

Countryside and parks officer Nick Hopkins, said: “This is an annual celebration of local produce, apples and juices. We are encouraging residents to think about buying locally and that orchards are great places for wildlife.

"More than 700 people attended the event at BEECHE, trying their hand at apple on a string, guess how many crab apples in the jar and the longest peel competition, it was really good fun".
