YOUNGSTERS at a Bexley primary school have been getting an insight into how chemistry can be put to work in real life.
The pupils at St Paulinus CofE Primary School in Iron Mill Lane, Crayford, have been taking part in a Chemistry at Work event at the school, as part of their science week.
They were able to meet industrialists and take part in presentations on how the companies use chemistry as part of their everyday jobs.
These included making hair gel in the cosmetic industry, learning about concrete and the importance of science in farming.
Eight different companies and the whole school took part, with 63 sessions of science throughout the day.
Year 6 teacher Sylvia Smith said: “This is an excellent idea, showing children the relevance of what they are studying at school and demonstrating how science is present in the world around us all the time.”
