The Vickers recorded their first set of back to back victories in the league with a 1-0 win at home over Ware Town to follow their 2-0 away win at Potters Bar the week before.

Despite the visitors being second bottom going into this game they showing good spirit and at times played some neat football that belied their position in the league.

At the back however they looked likely to concede and it did not take long for Vickers' flying winger Nick Hegley to get in behind the full back and send in a shot at goal that just missed the upright.

In-form striker Aaron Firth then sprung the offside trap but his attempted lob was well wide of the target.

Firth, Hegley and Leroy Huggins all had chances as the Vickers got in behind the Ware defence at will but they all wasted excellent opportunities to break the deadlock.

Ware created some good moves of their own with a couple of shots from outside the box following some slick passing.

Within a minute of the restart Huggins flicked a header into the path of Firth who raced clear and sent a curling effort with the outside of his boot towards goal but the shot canoned off the post and was cleared to safety.

Hegley sent in two crosses in quick succession that missed everyone as the Vickers looked as if they were never going to convert any of their numerous chances.

Firth showed a sublime piece of skill to lose his marker on the edge of the box and as he raced into the box and sent his cross across the face of the box he was tackled heavily by the Ware centre half.

As the ball bounced to his strike partner Leroy Huggins a goal seemed certain from 5 yards out but the normally incisive striker blazed his effort high and over the bar.

Firth was to play no further part having to leave the field with a dead leg and Ibemere was introduced to see if he could show the others how to finish.

It was to be classy midfielder Lee Maskell however as Hegley raced clear once more and sent a deep cross that found Winchcombe at the far post where he set the ball back to Maskell who side footed home with an assured finish to finally break Ware's resistance.

Ware rallied late on in an attempt to snatch a draw but the Vickers held firm to record their second win in a week and their 10th point from the last 15 available.
