A GROUP of teenagers arrested during a high street brawl with police have been expelled from Orpington College.

Trouble flared in Orpington High Street on Tuesday afternoon (November 3) when around 40 college pupils tried to board an overcrowded route 51 bus on their way home.

A patrolling police community support officer told most of the teenagers to wait for the next bus, which sparked a riot along the high street.

Seven Orpington College pupils were arrested during the violence. They have all since been expelled by the college principal.

Local safer neighbourhood teams, safer transport teams and police officers from Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich were all drafted in to deal with the mob.

During the violence, a 25-year-old PCSO sustained a cut above his left eye.

He was taken to the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, by ambulance.

Two other police officers were also assaulted during the incident.

The high street was closed for an hour while police struggled to bring the Orpington College pupils under control.

The seven pupils arrested including three 18-year-old women from Lewisham, Greenwich and Belvedere.

Two boys from Lewisham and Greenwich, aged 16 and 17, were detained, along with a 19-year-old man from Erith.

A 17-year-old girl from Dartford was also arrested during the disturbance.

The woman from Greenwich has been issued with a penalty notice for disorder.

The other pupils have all been bailed until the beginning of next month.
