A FIREFIGHTER was injured tackling a blaze at a block of flats.
The emergency services were called to California Building, Deals Gateway, Lewisham, at 3.54am today (October 15).
Six fire engines attended the nine-storey block of flats to put out a fire on the sixth floor.
A firefighter from New Cross station suffered minor head injuries but did not have to stay in hospital.
The owners of the flat were woken by their smoke alarm and evacuated the building.
They were treated for minor smoke inhalation.
In total 60 people were evacuated but were allowed to return to their homes as soon as the fire was put out.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
