BORIS Johnson has dropped his proposal to move the Olympic shooting events away from its planned venue.

The Mayor of London had previously called for shooting events to be shifted from from Woolwich Barracks to Barking and claimed it would save £10m.

But Greenwich and Woolwich MP Nick Raynsford led a campaign called Gunning for Woolwich claiming there was no evidence to back up this figure.

He said abandoning the plans would hit the regeneration of the area’s economy and joined Greenwich councillors on a boat trip to City Hall to deliver a letter of protest to the mayor.

After hearing about Mr Johnson's change of heart, Mr Raynsford said: "I am delighted the mayor has finally seen sense on this issue and accepted the points of our campaign.

"It was always perfectly clear that Woolwich, the historic home of the Royal Artillery, was the right venue for the shooting events."
