RESIDENTS have been working with a council to transfer their homes to a housing association.
More than 600 homes in Lee have now been transferred from Lewisham Council to Broomleigh Housing Association.
Broomleigh will spend £26m improving the homes, environment and services in the area over the next three years.
Some of the work Broomleigh will do includes improving tower block insulation, installing entry phones and improving communal lighting.
People from Lee approached the council in 2006 to look at proposals to transfer the ownership and management of council homes in the area to a housing association.
They wanted improvements made to their homes which go beyond the Government’s Decent Homes standards.
Cabinet member for customer services Councillor Susan Wise, said: “I look forward to seeing the improvements Broomleigh will be making to improve homes and the environment on the estates.”
