A MAN appeared in court today, charged with manslaughter, over the death of a teenager who died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at a takeway food shop.

Chelsea Leigh Wright, 16, from Brunswick Road, Bexleyheath, was found dead at Erith Fried Chicken in Erith Road, Bexleyheath, on March 16.

Amman Cheema, aged 34, of Earl Rd, Gravesend, and believed to be the man who ran the takeaway, appeared in custody at Bexley Magistrates Court.

He was also charged with gbh on Tom Hoyne, now aged 18, of Fendyke Road, Belvedere, who worked part time at the takeaway and who was found unconscious in the shop with Chelsea.

Mr Cheema had been on police bail since March.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 19 January next year.

At the time, three others, including two members of the London Ambulance Service, who were called to the incident, were also treated in hospital for the effects of carbon monoxide.

Chelsea had not been in Bexleyheath for very long and was the subject of a care order by another local authority.

Her stepmother described her as a very happy and joyful person who wanted to work with children.
