A MEETING has been held to set up a park’s friends group.
The meeting was held at Leesons Primary School in Leesons Hill, Orpington, to discuss the possibility of setting up a Friends of Hoblingwell Wood group.
Around 80 people attended the meeting and 12 people put their names forward to express their interest.
The meeting followed Bromley Council announcing it wanted to improve the land in Chipperfield Road, St Paul’s Cray, by adding new trees, landscaping and general park improvements.
However, the council scrapped the scheme after more than 1,500 residents signed a petition against the plans as they were worried about the possible congestion, dust, noise and disruption.
It would have seen wasteland regeneration specialists use subsoil or other inert remodelling materials such as clay, gravel or crushed fill to remodel and landscape the recreation ground.
Residents are now planning to improve the park by keeping it clean and tidy.
