TWO children’s play parks have been opened as part of a programme to develop new spaces for young people.
A play area at Shroffold Green, Shroffold Road, Downham has now got a zip wire, climbing equipment and a climbing wall, plus a youth shelter with a built-in radio.
Phoenix Community Housing Association received £40,000 from the Fair Playbuilder Funding and £60,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to design and develop the new play area.
Horniman Play Park, Forest Hill, was the site of a derelict paddling pool but partners Groundwork transformed it into a sandy beach area with climbing structures and a water pump.
A spider web climbing wall has also been installed after receiving additional funding from the Big Lottery Fund.
Lewisham Mayor Sir Steve Bullock said: “Young people are at the heart of our community and we are really pleased to have delivered these two new spaces that will promote their health and well-being.”
