If you are a regular reader of this newspaper, you will be aware of a far-right political party telling its members to contact local businesses that advertise in News Shopper to ask them ’politely’ to stop doing so. Why? Because News Shopper had the audacity to publish the truth, that’s why.

I will not name the ‘political’ party because it is obvious who I am talking about and as was quite rightly pointed out by a reader of the follow-up story, this collection of racist bullies is nothing more than a network of ignorant thugs intent on twisting the truth and crushing any opposition with threats.

The despicable behaviour of the far-right should not be ignored or regarded as someone else’s problem. If its beliefs go unchallenged, these boils on the backside of society will grow bigger and, if not treated, the poison will spread like wildfire.

The far-right monsters prey on the vulnerable, feeding off ignorance and prejudice that is unfortunately prevalent in all sectors of society. Like a pack of hungry hyenas they hunt the weak-minded, wounded or young because they know they will put up less of a struggle. As they attempt to invent new ways of tackling the problem of injecting new blood into their vile regime, they chew on the mistakes of the main parties and regurgitate their own indigestible propaganda in the hope that some starving idiot will come along and swallow it.

The far-right’s methods of canvassing support and rallying its already brainwashed members into a baying mob is disturbingly similar to the methods employed by the German Nazi party in the last century. What will these people do next? Perhaps they will copy their Nazi heroes and daub the windows of local businesses, not with the Star of David, but instead the words ‘News Shopper’.

Make no mistake, the main parties have let us all down. They misused and abused their expenses on all manner of luxuries including the famous duck pond. They proved their morals are somewhat questionable by repeatedly saying they had done nothing illegal. These politicians must be made to realise that though they may not have broken any laws, they failed to adhere to a moral code of conduct. As a result of a leak to a national newspaper - and the public outrage which ensued - they must now pay back their ill-gotten gains and by doing so admit that their actions were unquestionably wrong.

It is now up to the main parties to regain our confidence and it is down to voters to demand that the politicians buck up their ideas and realise that there are a lot of very unhappy and disillusioned people in this country today.

It’s the disillusioned among us who will be more likely to vote for the far-right, so it is of the utmost urgency that the main political parties smarten-up and convince everyone that they are the only viable option.

I didn’t vote at the last election because I was one of the disillusioned ones. I have only ever voted for one party but it let us all down with lies and invasions of far-off, oil-rich countries. I refused to vote for the other main parties out of principle but, come the next election, I will definitely be putting my cross somewhere, though I have yet to decide where.

However, my cross will most definitely not be in the far-right box because a protest vote is one thing, a vote for evil racists is quite another.
