SIX gang members have been jailed today for a kidnap which saw two men snatched from a sports shop and held hostage for a week.

The victims, one a friend of singer Lily Allen, were grabbed from the shop in Ladbroke Grove on August 2 last year. bundled into a car and kept handcuffed and blindfolded.

Southwark Crown Court heard how the two victims, aged 18 and 25, were pistol-whipped, forced to watch torture DVDs and told they would be killed if relatives did not pay a £90,000 ransom.

During the week-long ordeal they were fed once and not given any water. They were also made to record pleas of help which were sent to their families.

The men had been showered and dressed in black bin liners before being taken out, indicating they were being led to their death, when police stepped in.

Joseph Hadji, aged 27, of Ashmore Road, Queen's Park, was jailed for 10 years after admitting kidnap and blackmail.

Ashanti Kumpati, aged 29, of Greenhaven Drive, Thamesmead, and Paul Wigan, aged 30, of Milford Towers, Catford, were both given nine-year sentences after pleading guilty to blackmail and false imprisonment.

Another gang member, Thijseen Johns-Elliot, aged 28, of Siddons Road, Forest Hill, was jailed for 12 years after being found guilty of false imprisonment and blackmail.

Jason Goode, aged 27, of Verdant Lane, Hither Green, was sentenced to six years after being convicted of false imprisonment.

The final gang member in the dock was 36-year-old Vergil Percival, of Northwold Road, Stoke Newington, who smirked and cracked his knuckles while being told he would be jailed indefinitely for kidnap and blackmail.

As he left the dock he made a thumbs-up sign and said “sweet”.

Police say two men are still wanted for the kidnap, while three have been arrested and are on bail in relation to the incident.
