PUPILS at one Bexley school are now enjoying a meat-free Monday encouraged by the PETA Foundation.
Townley Grammar School in Townley Road, Bexleyheath, is taking part in the project which is part of a worldwide effort to reduce carbon emissions by cutting the amount of meat people eat.
The project , which is supported by a number of high profile figures including Sir Richard Branson and Sir Paul McCartney, addresses issues such as climate change, global poverty, increasing rates of obesity and animal welfare.
Pupils will also discover how to make healthy and nutritious meals from fruit, vegetables and whole grains.
Suzanne Barnard a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) Foundation manager said: “Pupils will learn what they eat can help them be responsible, global citizens.”
It is thought farm animals are responsible for around 18 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions.
