CHILDREN can get help from some true garden heroes as part of a supermarket campaign.

Morrisons has launched its Let’s Grow gardening programme, which will give youngsters the chance to get their hands on wormeries and shed loads of garden equipment, from wellington boots to complete greenhouses.

Wormeries are used for Tiger Worms to munch their way through garden and kitchen waste, producing a nutrient-rich compost.

Last year saw more than 15,500 schools collect 38.8 million vouchers which helped a green army of children grow four million tomatoes, a quarter of a million sunflowers and 14 million carrots.

Vouchers for equipment will be given out in stores until October 31 and these can be passed onto schools which will be able to exchange them for free gardening kits.

Morrisons Let’s Grow scheme director, Angus Maciver, said: “It is a terrifically fun but effective way to teach them how fresh food is produced.”
