THOUSANDS of people say they are looking at freezers full of ruined food, even if they get back their electricity supply sometime tomorrow.

Many have been without an electricity supply since 12.47pm yesterday when it is believed vandals set fire to four major electricity cables in Dartford, cutting off power to nearly 100,000 people in Bexley, Dartford and Orpington.

The power cut came the day after people had been encouraged to take part in the community event The Big Lunch, which was an opportunity to get together with neighbours and enjoy a neighbourhood street party.

Now, with tons of rapidly defrosting goodies in people's freezers, it could be another opportunity to organise a street party or picnic.

Once the power comes back on, why not gather up your street's children, elderly people and neighbours and organise your own event, in gardens along the street or the nearest park?

And you can put to use all the fish fingers, sausages, oven chips, chops and other food which will otherwise have to be thrown away.

It will be a good opportunity to compare "blackout" experiences and get to know your neighbours a bit better.

Let us know at News Shopper, if you hold a "post power cut" event and we will try to send a photographer along to capture the fun.
