A MOTHER from Bromley who cares for more than 50 has been named London’s Mum of the Year.

Claire Adams was nominated for being a single mum of three and surrogate mum to 50 young women, helping them adapt to their new roles as mothers.

The midwife for young parents in her local community provides extra support by helping them set up homes, find second hand furniture and buy electrical items.

A panel of judges for the Mum of the Year competition, which is being sponsored by News Shopper owner Newsquest, said she represents all the mums in the caring professions, who go so much further than the call of duty.

She is now one of 12 finalists in the competition which is organised by parenting website Netmums.

Netmums founder Siobhan Freegard said: “Claire epitomises the spirit of modern mums who are the hidden foundations of our lives, doing hours of unpaid work to help family, friends and local groups.

“Many mums are the driving force behind activities and groups that are appreciated by their entire community.

“It is this sprit of support that our Mum of the Year award is celebrating.”
