A 14-YEAR-OLD boy, the youngest ever person to be charged by the Met for possessing a gun, was sentenced this morning.

The youth pleaded guilty to firearm charges in November after being arrested at a New Cross house on August 12 last year.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted possession of a firearm, silencers and ammunition.

Today (Friday) at Inner London Crown Court he was given an 18 month detention and training order for all three charges, to run concurrently.

News Shopper: The ammunition was hidden in a sock.

Judge Usha Karu said: "These are dangerous times.

"Those who involve themselves in offences like this need to realise that the courts will come down against them.

"Gang culture can't be tolerated under any circumstances.

"If there is someone in court who is a self-confessed gang member it is wholly unacceptable."

News Shopper: Silencers were also found in the New Cross house.

The judge accepted the boys claims that he had been storing the firearms for another gang member.

Speaking afterwards the Met's investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Peter Beyer, said: "The boy said he was a member of the Pepys gang and gave us some names.

"We have been unable to trace the gang or the names. There is a chance that he made it up."
