THE guild held its latest meeting at the Crofton Halls, Orpington, on January 10.
Members were treated to a fascinating talk by Anna Mansi about her beautiful collection of Canadian Red Cross quilts.
She explained during the Second World War thousands of quilts were made by Canadian quilters and distributed via the Red Cross to children whose homes had been bombed.
In a time of shortage, the patched quilts were made from any fabric to hand, such as old shirts, dresses and blankets.
Many of these quilts have been treasured for years. The 10 quilts in Ms Mansi’s collection were given to families in Bromley and Beckenham.
She was curious about whether people still had such quilts they no longer needed and would also like to discuss their history. Call her on 01689 857067.
The guild holds meetings with workshops or talks on the second Saturday of every month between 2pm and 4pm at the Crofton Halls, York Rise, Orpington.
