THE manager of a sheltered housing scheme in Erith has retired.

Barbara Bonner, 64, has been in charge at Marler House in Barnett Close for the past 27 years.

The 30-flat scheme is owned by Orbit Housing and Mrs Bonner has been in charge of its day-to-day running, caring for the wellbeing of the residents.

Fellow staff and residents made sure she had a good send-off by laying on an afternoon of live entertainment and a buffet.

Friends and former staff and residents joined their counterparts from other sheltered housing schemes and her family at the event.

Her husband and two children also created a scrapbook of memories from her time at Marler House.

Orbit supported housing team manager Jemma Hodges presented Mrs Bonner with flowers and gifts from friends and colleagues.

She also read out a poem written by Mrs Bonner’s daughter.

There were more flowers and gifts from the residents, presented by 85-year-old Joyce Wells, the longest resident of the scheme, who has lived there for 11 years.
