A WASTE company has had to stump up £3,000 after being prosecuted for failing to keep proper records of its waste transfers.

Highway Waste Control Services, based in Wheatley Terrace Road, Erith, admitted the offence at Bexley Magistrates’ Court and was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £1,000 costs.

Firms which import, produce, carry, treat, keep or dispose of waste have to keep a written description of the transferred waste for two years.

Waste transfer notes have to accompany each transferred load so those receiving it can manage it properly.

The court heard when the North Kent Environment Agency carried out an audit of care in 2007, it asked for the paperwork on waste transfers between June 1 and August 31.

The company admitted it did not keep its own copy of paperwork, but gave one to the disposal site and the other to the customer.

It says it now keeps proper records.
