YOUNGSTERS have dressed in Victorian clothes to mark their school’s 175-year history.
St Margaret’s Lee Church of England Primary School, in Lee Church Street, is celebrating the anniversary this year.
All term children are learning about the school’s history and, for two weeks, they learned about the Victorian era.
Children dressed in clothes from the time and were given talks about the period during an assembly.
They also took part in Victorian-style lessons where all electronic equipment was banned.
The celebrations will continue over the next few months with the burying of a time capsule, a visit from the Bishop of Southwark and the retirement of headteacher Cindy McGuinnity after 17 years at the helm.
She said: “The children are just loving it. Pretending they’re back in that time has given them a real feel for what it could have been like.”
