AN unemployed homeless man has admitted to committing 170 burglaries, most of them in Bexley homes.

But Sam Jennings, aged 22, was caught after he and a 15-year-old accomplice burgled a house in Northend Road, Erith, armed with an axe.

Woolwich Crown Court heard how axe-wielding Jennings, and the teenager, crashed through the kitchen door of the Erith house in the early hours of August 3 last year.

They threatened the occupants, an 18-year-old girl, her boyfriend, her brother, 15, and a baby, before stealing a Playstation3 and a stash of DVDs.

Just over an hour later, police arrested the pair and they were later charged.

An investigation by Bexley police’s burglary squad led to Jennings admitting 169 other burglaries between 2005 and his arrest.

Some took place on the Kent border but most were in Bexley.

Jennings was jailed on January 16 for two-and-a-half years and his accomplice, who cannot be named for legal reasons, received a 12-month detention and training order.

Detective Constable Alex Brown said: “A prolific burglar and his accomplice have now been incarcerated, making Bexley a safer place.”
