Happy New Year! A time to celebrate, the year of the Ox.

I am afraid to say I do not know too much about Chinese traditions, so I have read up on New Year.

This year Chinese New Year (which is also known as the Spring Festival) begins today and lasts for up to 15 days. Chinese New Year changes as the date corresponds to the new moon (black moon) and lasts until the end of the full moon. Wow 15 days of new year celebrations, that sounds like my kind of New Year.

This year is the year of the Ox, and if you are born in this year apparently you have the following characteristics:-

Born leaders who will work hard to achieve their aims. Dependable, good organisers and not easily influenced by others. Patient, loyal to their friends and expect loyalty in return. Tend to have lasting relationships.

Is that you? To be an Ox you need to be born in one of the following years; 1925/1937/1949/1961/1973/1985/1996.

I myself am a Rooster and apparently I am;

Hardworking, strong-willed and confident. Well organised and good time keepers. Enjoy being the centre of attention and love flattery. Often outspoken and hate criticism of themselves though they can be inclined to find fault with other people.

What do we think is that me…??

Do you know your Chinese Zodiac sign? Do you think you resemble the characteristics associated with that sign? If you don’t know your sign let me have your year of birth and I will look it up for you.

Maybe if you are Chinese or have Chinese origins you can tell us how you and your families celebrate this occasion.

Have any of you been in the Far East over this time? Or been somewhere else to witness their amazing parades? It would be lovely to hear your experiences and find out if some of us resemble our Chinese Zodiac sign.

Enjoy
