A COUNCIL leader is calling on the Government to release traffic data about a busy stretch of highway.

Dartford council leader, Councillor Jeremy Kite says that the Dartford Crossing is one of the most polluted and congested stretches of road in the country.

He said: “I have long believed that the Dartford Crossing is one of the most congested, dangerous and polluting sections of road in the UK and I challenge the Government to release the data to prove I am wrong. “ He has asked for data about the levels of pollution and congestion at the crossing to be released to the public.

Cllr Kite added: “It is rumoured that there has been an independent scientific study carried out at the crossing and that the Government are in possession of its findings.

“If this is the case I am a little suspicious as to why they have not released it and I insist they do so immediately.”

He argues that the decision to keep the tolls and increase the charges has not helped alleviate traffic congestion.
