TODAY is Chinese New Year.
This year is the year of the ox and year 4706 according to the Chinese calender.
Celebrations are already underway and more than 400 guests attended the Greenwich Chinese Community School celebration, held at Meridian School, in Old Woolwich Road, Greenwich, yesterday (January 25).
Children entertained the crowd with traditional Chinese songs, lion dances and kung fu demonstrations to celebrate the start of the year of the ox.
Greenwich and Woolwich MP Nick Raynsford and Greenwich mayor Steve Offord attended.
Headteacher Josephine Chan said: “It was really exciting. Some of the children singing were only three years old.
“Everything was a big success and everyone had a big smile on their face.”
