ELDERLY people have been targeted by crooks in a string of thefts.

The thieves struck four times in the Downham area yesterday (December 18), stealing money from pensioners.

Two men have been knocking on people’s doors claiming to be from the water or gas board.

While one keeps the victims busy, the other goes into the house and steals money.

The men got away with £100 from one victim.

Police are reminding residents to always ask for identification from people knocking at the door.

The men are described as white, aged between 25 and 30 and between 5ft 5in and 5ft 10in.

If you have any information call Det Sgt Dave Cooper from Lewisham Police on 020 8284 8366.
