KNITTED sheep, three wise men and a baby Jesus have all been on display as part of a Christmas nativity scene.

The 12 figures took around two months to complete and were all knitted by Joyce Hooker of Hillcrest Drive Greenhithe and they also included a Mary and Joseph and shepards.

They were knitted as a gift to be used in a future raffle for Age Concern Swanscombe and Greenhithe in St Pauls Close, Swanscombe.

Chief executive of the branch, Sue Wood, said that because the figures are so special instead the centre is going to keep them to display every Christmas.

The 58-year-old said: “This is such a one-off thing. People have donated knitted things before but this is so detailed and I have never seen anything like it.”

Mrs Hooker is a retired Saville Row tailorist and she knits for charity and also sells some items. This was the first time she knitted a nativity scene.
