A POP concert featuring chart toppers Liberty X has been cancelled.
The event was due to be held on July 27, as part of the Bexley Spectacular, in Danson Park, Welling.
Organisers, Entertainers Outside Events, blamed Bexley Council’s licensing department for the cancellation. Managing director Michael Taylor said the council had put a curfew of 10.30pm on the Sunday concert.
“Liberty X are on a very tight schedule, performing elsewhere in the UK on the same day. From the outset we had arranged for both nights to end at 11pm. This allowed enough time for Liberty X to complete their Bexley Spectacular performance.” He said the council then declared a Sunday night curfew of 10.30.pm.
He added: “Unfortunately, there is no way Liberty X could get to us any sooner, and at that point we were forced to make a decision not to proceed with the Sunday evening.” Bexley Council denied it cut the running time of the concert to 10.30pm and said it understood the concert would run until 11pm.
A spokesman added: “We gave Mr Taylor a deadline of last Friday to provide a risk assessment and event management plan, but instead he cancelled the event. To say it was cancelled due to licensing restrictions is not correct.” Mr Taylor apologised to fans for the cancellation and said anyone who had bought a ticket for the Sunday night concert would get a full refund.
