A MEMORIAL stone commemorating the men of the former Denton Parish who fought and fell in the First World War has been unveiled.
The mayor of Gravesham joined Denton Community Forum members and family for the unveiling of the re-sited memorial stone in Lower Range Road, Gravesend.
The stone which was unveiled on June 26, bears the names of 13 residents and was formerly positioned at the entrance to the old Denton School. Part of the old school yard has been replaced with housing, so builders constructed a special wall for the memorial at the entrance.
Mayor of Gravesham Councillor Richard Smith said: βItβs right the memory of those who gave their lives to save our country should be given prominence.β
