NEW powers to hit back at dog owners who allow pets to foul Gravesham streets are expected to be implemented soon.
Gravesham Borough Council receives more than 200 complaints from residents about dog dirt each year, and following a trial hopes to hit people who do not clear up after their animals with £50 fines.
The four-year trial in Istead Rise and Riverview Park has seen complaints in the area halved and it is hoped the threat of fines will help make the borough a cleaner place.
New legislation, if passed by the council, should come into effect by the end of July and will apply to all public areas including pavements, roads, parks and recreation areas.
