THE mother of a girl who went missing for four weeks has spoken of her elation at her daughter’s return.

Jean Galbraith, of Boucher Drive, Gravesend admitted she had feared the worst when 15-year-old Jacqueline went missing on May 19.

The teenager left St George’s School, in Meadow Lane, with no money and just a small change of clothes.

Mrs Galbraith thanked members of the public who called police with information about Jacqueline’s whereabouts.

The teenager, who has gone missing for brief periods before, walked into Gravesend social services on Friday.

Mrs Galbraith said: “I am elated. I can’t express how I feel. It was brilliant.

“I would like to say thank you very much to everyone who has rung in.

“The police said they had a lot of calls. It’s so nice people took the time to make a call.” She added: “I have had a nightmare.

“I was thinking everything from abduction to paedophiles.

“It was nice to be able to relax with the family on the weekend and have a barbecue and know there was another member of the family there who should have been there all along.” But in a separate case detectives are still hunting May Dennard, aged 15, of Ingoldsby Road, Gravesend, who has been missing since May 29.

May is 5ft 2in tall, with black hair and is of slim build. She has a small mole on her upper lip.

She had no money or extra clothes when she left home.

She has not contacted her mother since leaving but it is believed she may still be in the Gravesend area.

A police spokesman said: “We are obviously very concerned about May because of her age.

“She is a popular young girl and well known around Gravesend but her friends may not be aware she is missing. We are keen to ensure she is returned home to her mother as soon as possible.” Anyone with information is asked to call 01474 331055.
