TODDLERS look set to relocate after news their community hall will be knocked down.

Ashen Drive toddlers’ club, which has run for 22 years at the community hall, in Ashen Drive, Dartford, has been looking for alternative quarters since being told its base will be demolished in September 2004.

Club chairman Kate Foster says it could move to Broomhill Scouts Hall, in Broomhill Road, as a stop-gap while another community hall is built in Ashen Drive.

The mum-of-two, who lives in Ross Road, said: “It would be nice if we could move there because it’s the closest hall we have got and parents will still be able to walk there.” The club is already organising a sponsored toddle to raise money for Barnado’s and a new storage unit so it can keep all its equipment at the smaller hall.

Ashen Drive hall is used by numerous groups, including Rainbows and pre-school nursery Toy Box, all of which are looking for new homes.

Christchurch Church committee, which owns the hall, is demolishing the building because it cannot afford refurbishment costs.

Dartford MP Dr Howard Stoate has been seeking assurance from the council it will do all it can to build another community hall on the site.

Dartford Council cannot afford to run it but council policy gives priority to replacing a community hall with another.
