THIEVES gave organisers of the Darent Valley Hospital Knockout challenge a slap in the face by stealing one of the used portable toilets hired specially for the day. The theft means fundraisers will have to fork out more than £800 from the money raised to replace the missing loo.

More than £6,000 is expected to have been raised after 15 teams — including News Shopper — clambered under nets, got splashed and scaled inflatables in aid of the Darent Valley Hospital Charity Fund.

But the hard work of volunteers and team members will now have to go some way to replacing one of the four toilets hired for the day on May 31.

Fundraising and voluntary services manager Tracy Cummins said: “Someone’s going to miss out because some vital equipment has to be bought with this money. I’m upset for all the people who helped to raise the money.” The loo, which will cost £852 to replace, was swiped on the evening of June 1 or the early hours of June 2.
