WITH the Olympics and Paralympics still fresh in members’ minds it was appropriate an early meeting in the society’s season should focus on Chinese airmails.

Specialist Brian Asquith gave us an excellent display on the period up to the end of the Second World War.

Although there had been occasional flights in 1909, and 1911, it was not really until 1920 that any serious attempt was made to set up regular airmail services both within China and to the outside world.

Brian showed a wide range of flights, both experimental and state sponsored, using covers, picture postcards, leaflets and timetables.

The next meeting tonight will be Roses, a display by Sheila Foster.

The society meets in the Public Hall, Bromley Road, Beckenham.

Visitors, guests and new members are always welcome.

Details may be obtained from secretary David Rennie on 0208 7787001 or membership secretary Chris Sands on 0208 4021263.
