I grew up in a small village in the North of Wales where everybody knew everybody. All the kids in the village went to the same schools right through to the end of secondary school.

I remember my parents always leaving the front door open when my sister and I went out to play in the local park or in the street. We used to stay out all day, not needing to go back and report to our parents every hour or so because they knew we would be safe. They knew that if anything happened then one of the other villagers would also be around and everybody trusted each other.

Of course there were a few rowdy kids, there always are, but they never broke the law or attacked anyone or anything like what happens today.

Which brings me to my point. What happened between then and now to change things so much. So that we HAVE to lock our doors for fears of somebody walking in and attacking us with a knife or stealing all of our possessions. To the extent where we barely even know our neighbours never mind everybody in our village/town.

Reading that in Bromley there is an average of 10 crimes committed a week sickens me. To read that young children have been accused of rape and sexual offences makes me ashamed to call myself British.

And as for Mrs Gouldings comment, "We find a lot of children get into drugs because they don't understand enough about them." This is absolute tosh! When I was 15 years old I knew exactly what different types of drugs were and what they did to you if you took them. When your 15 you probably know more about drugs than most adults do!

In my opinion, children do drugs because they think its cool. To make themselves look good in front of their mates and to look older. Plus, it's another way for them to break the law...something a number of them seem to enjoy doing, especially when they know they can't be punished by the police as they are too young.

Anyways...another day in the good old UK. Whatever will happen next :)
