June 1, 2001 10:19: A LIFEBOAT from Ernest Shackleton's ship, the James Caird, has been placed in the National Maritime Museum.
The grandson of Sir Ernest Shackleton, Earl of Kensington James Shackleton, was helped by Channel 4's Dermot O'Leary,
The event marked the 85th anniversary of the "greatest boat journey of all time", where Shackleton sailed across a treacherous ocean to South Georgia.
It will form part of a major exhibition South: The Race to the Pole" at the museum, for information call 0208 858 4422.
