DARTFORD is set to add to its new £376,000 CCTV system with a £21,000 mobile camera unit.

Dartford Council has approved a sum of £15,000 to fund the sophisticated SWIFT system, which is already being used to combat anti-social behaviour in neighbouring Gravesend.

The mobile CCTV system has been judged as being efficient, effective, versatile and easy to install according to a report by Dartford's director of community services, Susan Free.

Mobile CCTV units will be used throughout the area to compliment the cameras already in place after a successful bid to the Home Office for funding.

North Kent police have also agreed to put £6,000 into the project to fund the purchase of a camera.

Cabinet member for citizenship, Councillor Andy Sawford, welcomed the news of a mobile CCTV system for Dartford.

“This will enhance the main network of cameras and help the council work with various agencies on the ground. As part of our ongoing community safety partnership for Dartford, issues such as anti-social behaviour can be specifically targeted.”
