ONE of Bexley's busiest roads was closed to traffic last week when a water mains burst.
Although the leakage was quickly under control, it damaged the surface of Crayford Road, in Crayford, last Thursday. The road, one of the main routes between Bexley and Dartford, was shut between Station Road and the entrance to the Acorn industrial estate.
Thames Water turned off the water supply to allow repair work to get underway but workmen were still looking for possible underground cavities caused by the leaking water.
Barring unforseen problems, Bexley Council was hopeful the road would reopen again last night (Tuesday) but it had contingency plans for detailed diversion signs for local traffic, if the road has to remain shut.
