KENT fire brigade is backing a move by Trading Standards to recall an electric blanket which nearly set a house on fire.
When Connie Ashby, 88, from Shoreham, switched on her electric blanket, the flex caught fire and flames spread to the armchair the blanket had been placed on.
A Kent Fire Brigade officer was sent to investigate and passed the electric blanket onto Trading Standards for testing.
It was found to have a faulty heat controller and the manufacturer has undertaken a national recall of the Dreamland HAR1 single electric overblanket with the batch number 519841.
