A BROMLEY telecommunications worker has been found hanged in a French prison following his arrest by police.
Alexander Strathearn was found dead in his cell in Longounesse, St Omer.
An employee of Greenwich-based telecommunications company Alcatel, Mr Strathearn, believed to be in his 60s, was detained by police in the Boulogne area two days earlier. He was believed to be due in court in Paris this week.
A Foreign Office spokesmanconfirmed Mr Strathearn was found dead but refused to reveal why he had been arrested.
She said: "We are co-operating with the French authorities and can confirm Mr Strathearn had been detained until formally charged. His family have been informed and we are offering them consular assistance."
