June 11, 2001 16:27: SCOUTS raised £2,000 when they took to the streets of Dartford for their annual carnival.
Dressed up to represent different types of music, from reggae to rock 'n' roll, they paraded through the town centre, before setting up cream tea, plant and hot dog stalls in Central Park.
The 9th Dartford won the fancy dress competition as calypso musicians, with the 5th Dartford coming second, dressed up as country and western.
Beryl White, from Belvedere, was the lucky winner, from 1,700 hopefuls, who scooped the £100 raffle prize.
Secretary of Dartford District Scout Council June Parker commented: "It was a good turn out, well supported by the community. The scouts made a real effort on the costumes and the stalls, raising lots of funds for the future."
Half the money will go to the scout groups to buy spare equipment like rope and tents, and the rest will go to the Dartford District Scout Council to cover its administration costs.
